10 Points of Emphasis to Become a Better Hitter Be prepared, mentally and physically. Have a plan. Concentrate on hitting pitches that you can handle. Don’t get your self out by swinging at bad pitches. Try and hit Gap to Gap, not foul line to foul line. Maintain a balanced workable stance, stride and follow through. Keep the stride consistent. A bad stride can cause more problems than anything else in hitting. Keep the swing short, so the adjustments are short. Don’t just swing to hit the ball, know what you want to do with it. Look at the baseball. Make adjustments based on score, situation and count. Handle failure.
